Why Is My Phone Number Different On My Website?

If you see a different phone number on your website than your usual business line, that’s intentional.

If you have clicked on one of your own ads, then you might see a different phone number. This is one reason why we recommend that you never click on your own ads.

Google dynamically changes your phone number to help measure the performance of your marketing. Each number is unique to a specific source, such as your website, a Google ad, or a landing page. These numbers forward directly to your regular business line, so nothing changes for you or your staff when answering the phone.

The reason this matters is because it allows us to see exactly which marketing channels are generating phone calls. We can track:

  • How many calls are coming from your website vs. paid ads

  • What time of day calls are coming in

  • Which campaigns are driving the most engagement

  • How well your sales team is responding to new leads

This data helps us optimize your marketing strategy over time. Instead of guessing what's working, we can rely on real, measurable insights to adjust your ad spend, messaging, and timing.

If at any point you'd prefer to display your main business number instead, or if you have questions about what number is currently being used, just submit a ticket and we’ll walk you through your options. Please allow 48 hours for us to respond.
