Should I Be Worried About Facebook or Domain Scams?

You should always be very wary of messages and links sent by people you don't know.

Unfortunately, scam messages and phishing attempts on Facebook have become more common. These messages often look official and urgent, claiming things like:

  • “Your page is at risk of being deleted”

  • “You’ve violated copyright or community guidelines”

  • “You need to verify your identity”

  • “Click here to resolve this issue immediately”

Scammers use this tactic to create a sense of panic, hoping you’ll click without thinking. Once clicked, these links often lead to fake login pages or malicious sites designed to steal your Facebook credentials and take over your account.

The same tactics are also being used to target domain owners. Scammers may pose as domain registrars and send fake renewal notices, exaggerated SEO offers, or misleading domain protection pitches. Some common domain scams include:

  • Fake renewal emails with urgent subject lines and inflated prices

  • Domain slamming, where scammers pretend to be your registrar and pressure you to switch services

  • Phony SEO or domain listing services that promise search visibility but deliver nothing

  • Scare tactics, such as false claims that a competitor is about to buy a similar domain name

These communications are often filled with typos, lack legitimate contact info, and pressure you to act quickly to avoid losing your domain or visibility online.

What should you do?

If you receive anything suspicious, whether it's about your Facebook page or your domain name:

  • Do not click on any links

  • Do not enter login or billing information

  • Take a screenshot if you can

  • Avoid replying to the sender

  • Verify the message directly with your domain registrar or platform provider
